Had a lively discussion with my father (a retired Marine after 22 years of service) about the images we saw in class. He did mention the execution of the Viet Cong officer was justified since he had just killed the officer's entire family. I did a quick search and found a link saying the On the BBC website it does suggest the Viet Cong had just committed murders, although it did not specify who the victims were.

I also passed along the links to the raising of the American flag during WWII at Iwo Jima. He was grateful to have those links since since he was a good friend of one of the men who was there in the original photo. He did give credit to the photographer and the fact that there were two shots of the iconic photo due to the desire for the larger flag.

Interesting having another slant to things.

Anyone know where to get the reading for this week?
Croteau, David and Hoynes, William (2005). The Business of Media: Corporate Media and the Public Interest. Chapters 3 and 4 (Skim both) and 5 (read). (???)

I also tried getting into the reserved readings and used the Password (MEL***), but it wouldn't let me in. Is there a different code to get in b/c if that's where the reading is, I can't get to it.

-Douglas
